Modern-Day Makeovers

Turn Your Great Room into a Grand Room

Before: After 30 years, the Owners of this lakeside home in northern Minnesota felt their tired and outdated great room fireplace needed a design upgrade. The round faux cultured stone was flanked by pine cabinetry that had aged to an orange finish over time and the log mantel not only lacked character but created a visual weight to the space emphasized by a short, squatty design. The faux marble paint above, while popular in the late 90’s, had become tired and dull. The 2-story volume begged for a grand design that fit the proportions and character of the space.

After. Removing the soffit around the perimeter of the room allowed for a stately 2-story fireplace in Aspen Country Ledge Stone with an Indiana limestone hearth.  A custom wood mantel stained in deep chocolate tones rests above the firebox supported by ornate corbel brackets that bring a level of sophistication to the design for an up-north home.  The existing cabinetry was replaced with Knotty Alder built-ins finished with a black stain and deep chocolate accents to provide a visual statement within the space while paned glass cabinet doors highlighted by LED back lighting display family heirlooms and a touch of cottage charm.

Modernize your Master Bath

Before. This inset tiled tub was dated taking up valuable space in the master bath, and the pine cabinetry had seen better days. It was time for some modernization to create a more easily accessible bathroom space with sophisticated design details worthy of a Master Suite.

After. The built-in tub was replaced with a modern, free-standing soaking tub angled in the corner to allow the vanity cabinet to extend the length of the room for additional storage and better placement of the double sinks.  The cabinets were extended to the ceiling to not only provide a more finished look but make the master bath feel more spacious and inviting.  The shower was expanded and designed as a zero-clearance entry for easy access, and the custom tile surround and frameless barn-style glass sliding doors give it a modern flare.  Add in a mini chandelier for that touch of elegance and feel of an in-home spa oasis.
