Pantone Color of the Year

Classic Blue…Pantone Color of the Year for 2020

September’s birthstone, the Sapphire, is one of the world’s most precious and valuable gems.  Its deep blue hue makes it both striking and bold and the perfect complement to the natural wood tones found in most homes today. A staple on the primary color wheel, Classic Blue has burst on the scene as a major player in both home design and décor making it the perfect choice for the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year.  Hesitant to take the leap into such a bold color palette?  Here are some ways to introduce this stunning shade into your personal space.

Bold and Beautiful

When in doubt…go all out!  Cabinetry offers the perfect blank canvas to introduce a saturation of blue into your home.  This farmhouse kitchen stepped away from the traditional white and introduced both a full wall and island of blue cabinets to create a distinctive pop of color.  Want to make a bolder statement, choose a space that supports an “all-blue” décor such as this home office.  Offset the dark tones with rich caramel countertops, flooring and accessories and you’ve created the perfect masculine space for Dad!

A Wall of Whimsy

Want to have a little fun with color?  This beach bath was highlighted with a wall of rich navy tiles laid in a classic brick pattern complemented by a bright pop of chartreuse green.  Not only is the industrial style of the sink a unique feature, the bright color contrast makes this space both fun and functional!

Cottage Chic

If you’re afraid of too much blue, the Cottage Style vernacular is the perfect architectural style to introduce a bolder tone with a more subtle twist. This classic cottage design incorporated a simple blue vanity cabinet into the guest bath for just the right amount of character.  Want to be more adventurous, compliment that blue vanity with a diamond pattern wall tile as a dramatic backdrop against an otherwise crisp white space.

Sweet and Simple

If you’d prefer to keep the use of blue more versatile, try introducing the trend with home décor contrasted by a backdrop of neutral finishes.  A piece of artwork, throw pillows or your grandma’s prized antique serving collection are also a great way to bring this splash of color into a space without making a permanent investment.  This provides you flexibility to change with the trends and perhaps embrace the new Pantone Color for 2021!

Whatever you desire, from bright and bold to crisp and classic, adding some blue details into your own space helps create a sense of personality and purpose.  A universal color that compliments most any décor, Classic Blue could be on trend for years to come.
