Adirondack Boathouse

Adirondack Boathouse

Project Overview

The art of appearing natural. The owners of this private boathouse wanted to create a structure inspired by the old Adirondack camps of northern New York, a perfect complement to their rustic boating and hunting lifestyle.

Maintaining the natural look. A trademark of Adirondack style is the use of unfinished materials like tree trunks and bark-on wood. Nor-Son sourced beautiful raw wood—red cedar from British Columbia and white cedar from the heart of the Adirondacks in New York—painstakingly choosing each tree by hand.

“The entire project was built and managed by Nor-Son. We have had many friends marvel at the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the home, much of which we left to the carpenters to use their own imagination to design. A case in mind is the stairway going upstairs. The entire staircase and railing are made from cedar tree branches and logs. The team’s great imagination was evoked in the execution of the staircase’s design, and visitors always stop and comment on the beauty and uniqueness of this feature. We used Cedar trees harvested from British Columbia for the columns. We wanted these specific trees due to their large diameter and stately look. The Nor-Son team went into the forest with the tree owner, marked each tree to purchase, and brought them back to Lake Nisswa. To Nor-Son’s credit and our satisfaction, not one tree marked was unused in the project. Needless to say, we would recommend Nor-Son for any project—large or small. They are on-time, within budget, and always with a “customer is right” attitude. You won’t go wrong working with Nor-Son. — Lee and Penny, Homeowner
